My most recent song is, “It Shouldn’t Be Like That.” Honestly, I think we need a revival in the church, and I include myself in that statement. I’m tired of the deadness, posing, apathy and lifelessness that passes as spiritual life in me and others. I've been a Christian long enough to know how to put on a show, but what's the point? Aren't you hungry for Jesus? Don't you want to return to your first love? I do! I’ve tasted His fullness in times past… seen it in myself and in His Church… know what it is to be full of the Spirit and truly “alive in Christ”, and brothers and sisters, this is not it!
Jesus said, "Remember the height from which you've fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first..." (Revelation 2:4-5) It's a plea to return to our "first love", and what could be better than that? You remember what it was like when your eyes were first opened to Jesus... what a wonderful day that was! It was as if the whole world was suddenly changed and everything was brand new... nothing could compare to the love of God that flooded your heart! I'm quite sure if this applies to you, you know exactly what I'm talking about. You've tasted of His goodness and you want that back again. Jesus is calling you to come back home; I hope you'll answer that call, because everything in God's Word tells me He's more than ready to throw His arms around you without so much as an accusing glance. We know how much He loves us, what are we waiting for?
Better get in the boat!
Have you heard "Better get in the boat"? I call it my "Noah" song! I had a lot of fun doing it but it has a serious message, and it's definitely made me think about the times we're in. It's so easy to let the days go by, being in our own little world, never stopping to think that Jesus came right out and told us that when He came back it would catch a lot of people by surprise.
"So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him." -Matthew 24.44
Nice Little Church
You may have noticed a theme running through the songs in this column- we're living in the last days, the time is short, we're the bride of Christ... and it's time to get ready for the bridegroom! Scripture tells us that there will be a great "falling away", but a falling away from what? It's not people leaving the church that marks apostasy, it's the church leaving Jesus!
"Nice Little Church" is the first song I recorded to directly talk about this issue. Certainly one of the greatest signs of apostasy is people who are not born again calling themselves "Christians" because they "go to church". The church should be doing everything we can to warn people that going to church is not a ticket to heaven, and that the only way to get there is to be born again through the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit as we enter into life through faith in Jesus Christ.
